One of the most asked questions about stretching is, how long should I hold the stretch? Well, you want to do it neither too short, nor too long as this may lead to injury. I’ve been told that 15 seconds is the minimum and 60 seconds the maximum. I generally stretch for 30 seconds (4 deep breaths), change position and maybe return to that same pose again later, if I feel like the 30 seconds were not long enough. Whenever I get comfortable with a position, I extend the time to 60 seconds or even longer, if I don’t feel any resistance anymore.
